4AD-signed pop group U.S Girls released a fresh album Heavy Light back in March. With a classic style, it encompasses a sound that echoes the 70's, but with lyricism that's more current than ever through its discussion of gender politics, and interludes that are snippets of advice for teenagers. U.S Girls' new single 'Santa Stay Home' is a continuation of this socially-conscious songwriting. Opening with the familiar jingles of bells, they become haunting when Meghan Remy sings the line 'when landfills overflow around the globe, you sit up there in your red judge robe, the charade has got to end, Mr.White Christmas, this is what I recommend: Santa stay home'. The rest of the song is upbeat and pop-injected, carrying the Christmas spirit, minus the shit. In a world that values material things over love or the environment, 'Santa Stay Home' is such a refreshing Christmas song. -Ellie Rose-Davies
